The Hypothetical AU Meme:
Take any one of the fandoms you know I write AND give me another time period (Ancient Rome, Regency England, etc.) OR give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, etc.). I will then explain what story from that fandom I would AU in that era.

fake!tv: The Gardens
Mar. 18th, 2011 02:47 pmIt goes like this:
You guys give me seven (7) actors/actresses - all at once, or one at a time from different people, whatever floats your boat! - and I'll come up with a television show for them. I'll give a blurb and character descriptions. In return, I'll give you seven actors/actresses and you do the same!
UPDATED!
djkiwi2576 gave me an AWESOME cast:
1. Karl Urban
2. Kate Winslet
3. Idris Elba
4. Regina King
5. Tom Hardy
6. Russell Wong
7. Bianca Lawson
AND HERE'S WHAT I CAME UP WITH:
The Gardens
The dramatic tale of two warring crime families in the grit and the polish of modern London. Led by ruthless and beautiful women, The Georges and The McLarens clash and intertwine in every arena - business, politics, sex, and love.
Caissa George (Regina King) - "The Queen", as ruthless as any medieval monarch, she'll kill you herself if you betray her.
Elise Warding McLaren (Kate Winslet) - "The Rose", as cold as she is beautiful. Or that's what she would have you believe.
Luther George (Idris Elba) - Caissa's cousin and trusted second-in-command.
Inspector Tobias Gray (Russell Wong) - Being in love with the wrong woman, he understands "conflict of interest" better than anyone.
Joseph McLaren (Tom Hardy) - Elise's husband. A wastrel with bigger secrets than the fact that his wife runs his empire.
Billy Warding (Karl Urban) - Elise's brother. A hotheaded and rebellious, but effective, lieutenant.
Eve George Warding (Bianca Lawson) - caught in the middle of a fight she wanted nothing to do with, her loyalties tested daily, will Eve be collateral damage, or will she rise to power?
Theme Song: Black Fingernails, Red Wine by Eskimo Joe

The DVD Commentary Meme
Pick a passage from one of my stories, and comment to this post with that selection (including a link to the story being excerpted). I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the story, awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

Aug. 15th, 2010 11:12 amAsk me my Top Five Whatevers. Fannish or literary or otherwise. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! Fandoms, ice cream flavors, books I love or love to hate, cartoon moments, women in my fandoms, OTPs, ideal holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, books I wish would be made into movies, love songs. And I will answer them all!
day 19: a song that turns you on
Jul. 25th, 2010 12:49 pmSo. Another exception to a musical rule. The rule of "The original is always better than any cover could ever hope to be." And particularly with this song - I love the original Bob Dylan so much, that my utter love for this cover took me rather by surprise. Wanna seduce me? This song right here will totally do the trick.

day 18: a song that makes you laugh
Jul. 25th, 2010 12:45 pmOMG. Just listen to this. And if doesn't make you laugh - especially the last 15 seconds - then I don't even know, there is probably no hope for you. I don't know why I like mash-ups so much. I just do. In direct contradiction to my mile-wide streak of musical puritanism.

This is particularly effective when I put my Valery Gergiev recording CD into the surround sound system of doom and blast the hell out of just the Dies Irae over and over and over.

day 12: a song from your favorite album
Jul. 18th, 2010 06:32 pmFavorite album? Surely you can't be serious. I cannot pick favorites!
But here's my favorite track from an album that I really do love and will listen to all the way through - it's great as background/mood music and also wonderful for intent listening: Buena Vista Social Club. I ordered it from Amazon way back when based purely on the glowing reviews, and I was not disappointed.
Pueblo Neuvo - Buena Vista Social Club

day 9: a song from your favorite band
Jul. 14th, 2010 04:01 pmAgain, a ridiculous expectation - a favorite favorite band? I CANNOT CHOOSE. So, my favorite band of the moment:
MUSE
MUSE
OH GOD. I cannot believe I am posting this. THIS song right here, this is me and my sister. Driving in her little white Jetta, late at night after seeing a movie, windows rolled down, sunroof open, singing at the top of our lungs to this whole album, laughing like loons and having just the best time ever.
I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys
I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys
It seems like forever ago, but it wasn't quite 5 years, that a friend and I were deep in the midst of plotting out an epic 5-season romcom television show we called "21 Things". Season 3 found our heroines in London, away from their respective guys, having epic adventures (including, for Cate, hot hot sex on a table with a pub owner who was going to be played by Sean Bean - OH HAI THAR my Mary SueNess)...anyway, in all that plotting and writing and whatnot, I also made soundtracks! There are, dear lords help me, 6 full discs of soundtrack for this thing. This song was for the London season. It is a cover of one of my all time Beatles favorites, and it is wholly different and the same and awesome in its own right. It is an illustration of genius at work - the brilliance of the original, the virtuosity of the cover artist, the aching voice of a guitar owning the song for itself.
A Day In The Life - Jeff Beck

day 4: a song that reminds you of someone
Jul. 9th, 2010 11:03 amwhen i'm cold inside
you are warm and bright
the places you've been
the things you have learned
they sit with you so beautifully
i can feel everything you do
everything you say
even when you're miles away
and just like stars burning bright
making holes in the night
we are building bridges
Universe & U - K.T. Tunstall
